nibbled peas
« on: March 24, 2015, 12:53 »
I have some pea seedlings growing away nicely but just noticed something has nibbled off the growing tip on quite a few. Is it pointless me planting these, or will the plants create new growing shoots? Thanks

they are likely to regrow new shoots, as people who grow Pea shoots for veg knows they normally get second and 3rd harvest after nipping off the shoots.

If, as I suspect, your peas are tiny and just coming through they will not grow again. The culprits are usually pigeons but small birds will also nip them off.

Bigger robust peas will tolerate some grazing but in cold conditions when growth is slow it does not do them any good.

Always net peas.
