Things I won't ever do again

I will never again plant two butternut squashes in my polytunnel. I mean the tunnel is 20ft x 14 ft and the damn things are making a determined bid to cover every square inch. I'm allowing them to roam unchecked over a large strawberry bed and to thread themselves through the sweetcorn but now they want to join the tomatoes as well

I will never grow ten courgette plants again.

I do have an excuse though: my first five looked like they were going to die from cold and so I started another three, and the last two were supposedly squash plants.

I will never store 6kg of Red Currants in one large freezer bag.  It was a nightmare trying to get a 2kg load.  In the end I had to break up the entire lump and rebag.  From now I use 1kg bags.

When out planting on a nice spring day:
Look at a runner bean seed when peckish and think" Well its from a bean so it must be OK to eat"
I did. It wasn`t.
Please don`t.

i won't plant so many marrow plants in the poly tunnel.

i put 4 plants with 1m spacings between plants, looked plenty of space when i planted them. now they're trying to take over the tunnel. even after tying them back. persistent little blighters.

also not let cucumber side shoots do their own thing. thinking some would dye from stem rot and the side shoots may come in handy to make up for dead ones. next year i will be cutting the side shoots off, just training one and the main stem up the string.

the list will no doubt get bigger before the end of the year. after all you live and learn.

I won't grow short peas with short pods. I found the taller more productive ones less trouble to harvest.

I wonder if you could persuade them to reach down as far as here, Alan, as we have only just got ours to show female flowers, and at this rate, they'll not get old enough...

Put quite so many plants in a 5ft x 7ft greenhouse. It's like a jungle in there! (In my defence, it was "acquired" at  the start of the season and i had no idea how big everything would grow in there!

Same here with the ones I planted outside but the polytunnel ones have started to set fruit.
