Can anyone help? i have a boarder in front garden thats been full of lilac, yew trees, have had them all taken down and have dug out as much as posible but the stumps and roots are huge so will have to stay. I was thinking of covering with heavy duty weed surpressant or plastic with drainage holes and getting some topsoil so i can make a flower boarder. would this work? and if so what top soil should i be looking for.

First thing to think about is that those stumps might well start growing again, so if you really don't want them, it might be best to use some stump killer, or grind them out.

You wouldn't need to put any membrane down imho, and top soil is best bought in bulk in builder's bags.

Dandy's Topsoil always do reasonable deals (that deosn't mean cheap though  ) or you might have a local source.
