My 3 ISA Browns lay 1 plain brown egg each every day.  Yesterday one egg was covered in white speckles, slightly rough to the touch.  What may have caused it?

I'm pretty sure that is a calcium deposit.  It is fairly common, and we have had a couple of them (from what I can make out by your description) that were similar.  Nothing to worry about!

Thankyou.  I've read through some other posts and noticed that dark greens help calcium absorbtion.  I was away for a few days and my partner works long hours, so the chooks weren't given their daily greens - so maybe that's why!

I have jsut seen in the Battery welfare mag that this can be caused by the hen hanging on to her egg for longer than necessary .... and that thin shelled eggs is if they lay them too early!!

The latter would make sense with my girls as they all have access to the same stuff daily and there has been one thin shelled egg for a couple of days (although 24 hours apart)??
