Hi everyone,  I have been offered a light sussex cockerel to keep my Amberlinks and ex-batts company. I'm not bothered about the ex-batts as they are now fairly robust and can take care of themselves, but the Amberlinks are only approx 23 weeks old. Would they be ok with a cockerel or are they maybe a bit too young.

Would be grateful for your thoughts,

Hi there,
They should be fine! At 23 weeks the Amberlinks should be in lay, cockerels will not usually tread hens unless in lay -and sounds like you have plenty to keep him company! He may take a while to get settled then you'll see him calling and feeding his girls!  Make sure you are firm with him mind and he knows who's boss - otherwise he might get a bit overprotective and you will have to take a dustbin lid  in to feed them!

My Amberlinks (well some of them!) live with a cockerel, and he's a big lad, but he's good with them!
