Yes, you do have to send them a sample. If you were registered with them they would send you some bags with instructions. When you post your sample you also text them the location. At that point they enter an orange dot with a stripe on the map. When they receive the sample they either confirm blight and turn the dot to red, or say it is not blight and turn the dot to green.

I think yours is blight and tops should be removed. I doubt if Blightwatch is very interested in samples now. I may be wrong. The main point of the exercise is to give growers early warning, especially in June/July. By this time of the season blight is no surprise.

Blight or die back?

The variety is Desiree they have only been in the ground since Mid June but tubers have formed so they have grown quite quick.......

HR8 area apparently shows no blight around here.

Suggestions?

If we knew where you were we might agree. Put it on your profile.

:tongue2:That looks like blight to me. Best to cut the tops off.

It does look like blight, and if it were me going into September, there is little to be gained by not cutting the halums if blight is suspected.
It's been a good year... it could almost be considered blight free ish in a general sense for all intents and purposes. If anything the potato growers ended up more worried about the incidence of blackleg than blight.
Hopefully, this year's low level of blight will kill off once and for all last year's rather distasteful blaming of the allotment community for the high incidence of blight. If our cleanliness was wicked last year, we are still wicked this year, so why no blight ? I think Bill Clinton summed it up perfectly .... "It's the weather, stupid"

1st year growing so better be safe than sorry I am going to cut the tops off.

The tubers have formed as I harvested a plant last week due to black leg.

Definitely got blight  on my pink fir apple. I can feel the potatoes bulging through the sack so I am 'sticking' with what I have got  and cutting the haulms down. My sarpo mira are also looking worrying so I think that the lot are going to go.

Definitely blight on my Toms near Peterborough. Weather is currently dry and warm which is keeping it at bay but it is progressing, might get another week out of the plants if I'm lucky and the weather holds dry.

My toms went over and we stripped them out to stop it in its tracks.

Mind you blight watch has a confirmed case at BA22 which is on our doorstep
