whats the secret to growing tasty celery, I have tried for the last 2 years and although the plants look healthy and they are nice and crunchy they still have a biter taste.  This year I grew Latham Galaxy self blanching.

People aren't aware that celery is more of a bog type of plant - needs all the water you can give it. And no chemical fertilizers - that's where the bitter taste comes from. Lots of manure though, very regular watering and  a bit of shade so you don't get the bitterness of hard photosynthesis.

I'm with you rictic two years and still only good for soup. Thought I'd done it this year but they stopped growing about 8 weeks ago and even though they are pale coloured they are quiet bitter and tough.
My favorite salad and I cant grow it.

If it was lighter I'd take a photo - but I grow it in a seed tray or pots in or just outside of the greenhouse and put tray/pots in a gravel tray which is constantly full of water. Otherwise it gets too woody.
