First Egg!!!!!

I finally got my first egg yesterday

My chooks are 28 weeks so I was getting really fed up with everyone asking if they had started laying yet. And then, despite the rain and wind, when I got home there lying in the mud was the first egg! Not sure which of the girls was responsible so they are all getting the credit at the moment.

I would love to say how great it tasted ..... but the kids shared it.

Hopefully another one along soon.

Have now had four eggs in 3 days!

Obviously hens coming into lay are a bit like buses, as there are definitely 2 hens laying. After lots of reading up on the web I am convinced that the top girls are Martha (the silkie - small tinted eggs) and Karate (the Barbu D'Uccle - tiny white eggs). Have had 2 from each of them, and I recon they probably both laid their first eggs on the same day - we found 2 from Karate the day after finding Martha's first, but one was hidden in a corner of the hen house.

Maybe it's just one of those things girls like to do together
