Yup, I just cut any odd/nasty bits off first - I assume everybody who grows their own, does the same.
It seems that only the bods who buy packed 'perfect' veg from the supermarkets, who don't - you know, the people who don't realize how many chemicals farmers have used to make them look like that ...

i fully agree with you Mum but do people really give a? if chemicals are used in food production so long as they look good and are cheap?

my wife always looks very hard in our brassicas to see if there's any slugs and cuts away any slug damage the same goes for potatoes so long as you cut the damage out and wash it well  there ok to eat well  its never done me any harm  :D

Wash well and cut out the damage.  I work on the premise that if it's safe for the critters to eat then it's safe for me.  I'd rather have a few holes and dog-eared leaves and know that what I'm eating isn't likely to poison me than to have something that looks perfect but may be unsafe to eat.
Each to his own, but surely the whole point of growing our own fruit and veg is that it is pesticide and chemical free.

If I didn't eat slug damaged veg, I wouldn't get to eat any of the lovely cabbages I grow.

I'm with every body else, cut off, remove any nasty looking bits and use the rest.  We're not fussy here.
