Potatoes
« on: September 22, 2020, 16:41 »
Hi Everyone. Hope your all still well and safe. Had a good year vegetable wise but, have a question.
Can anyone enlighten me on what's wrong with the potatoes. Pictures enclosed.
The variety is Nadine - Second Earlies, haven't seen it before.
Regards
Graham

My guess is possibly spraing, which has several causes such as viruses, trace element deficiency or water shortage.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Spraing is brown lines underneath skin, blight is brown areas under skin - yours look like something in between the two, so I would not rule out blight, but it could well be
Spraing.   If you scrape a different potato, you may be able to identify it accurately.
Unfortunately, with most of these diseases, the damage is done by the time you discover it, but there is a great variation in weather conditions to cause these problems and different varieties are more susceptible than others.

I had the same on Nadine three years ago and thought it might have been Necrotic Potato Virus Y. One of the rows was half and half with Kestrel, the Kestrels were completely unaffected.
