Plastic Pots and Trays
« on: May 03, 2018, 11:42 »
John. Thanks for your recently received newsletter. I was interested to note your topic on the use of plastics and I agree it is something that not just gardeners but everyone needs to be more aware of. As a plant grower for our allotment association the use of plastic pots and trays becomes abundantly clear, even on our relatively small scale. Already this year we have used hundreds of 3in pots, not to mention 6 and 12 cell trays.
We have now taken the decision and this week have taken delivery of wood fibre pots to replace the plastic ones, in time we will replace the cell trays with the fibre option as well. Cost wise there is not much in the two materials, but being that we are passing on the pots to customers we will not be able to re-use them ourselves.
Apart from the advantages of using compostable pots over plastic, we feel this is a good commercial decision also. Perhaps one day all plant suppliers will agree!
Regards.
