Pots for sweet peas.
« on: April 27, 2019, 13:01 »
I'm running out of space in my veg beds for my sweet peas so am thinking of planting some in pots. What width and depth would you recommend?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I have found if the pots are too shallow or too crowded they take a lot of watering and feeding to keep them going. Best ones were in a large pot, say about 18ins across and as deep. had enough soil depth to add strong supports from the too, which didn't blow over

Personally I find the blue-and-white Victorian porcelain utility-ware far better for someone of my rather slim frame, but as they're not recommended for using outdoors in frosty conditions I'll just stick with Growster's new port-a-loo. This is an easily-erected and non-see-through plastic tent with a personally-designed WC (though you need to provide your exact bum measurements in both yards and meters), a heated seat, one of those dangly chains that you pull and, as long as you also bought the additional pipe connecters and hose that connects to your water butt (BTW not one's personal butt) for which only he has the patent so take out another mortgage, the contents will be transferred to your compost heap. It even has a toilet roll holder so you can use whatever paper you prefer. There's no need to use an old brown plastic pot with a hole in the bottom because outside peas where you have to see which way the wind blows are a thing of the past. Before I get my straight-jacket, I'll just find the biggest pots I have, shove some compost and supporting canes in, then I'll try to find a place for the rest. As long as I can sit here with a vase of sweet peas I'll be a very happy bunny.

Ive always grown my sweet peas in pots.
My pots are a mix of 12 inch and 15 inch width and grow six and eight sweet plants in each, up three 5-6 feet canes in a pyramid.
Always get a good crop that flower from mid May to mid October.

Crumbs, I didn't know you could stuff so many into pots that size! I've got some green plastic gro-bag pots that you insert into the bag to raise the soil level, so that's at least two of them I'll use in two or maybe three 12-15" pots. Thanks a lot for that.
