Chickens or Monkeys?
« on: September 20, 2010, 19:06 »
I went to a charity poultry auction a week ago on sunday and came home with 4 white silkies and 4 araucana's, around 17 wks old. Well they were out in there run all afternoon having a good scratch around but when i went down to put them to bed i couldn't find 2 of the araucana's ? i serched everywhere. went to let them out in the morning and there they were in the run having breckie. Same happened the next night, but in the morning i went down and there they were right up in an old oak tree, at least 20 ft up, i called them down and they both flew straight into the run for breakie!! fence around run is 10 ft high. So spent yesterday putting netting over the whole area to keep the little monkeys in. 10 mtres by 4 metres = £50 quid in netting and i thought they were a bargain??  :nowink:

Hi, I've recently got two Aracauna's - well a few weeks ago now - along with a Maran and a Silkie-Sussex cross. The first night I went to put them away the four of them had flew up onto there coop and were set to stay the night up there until I - to there disagreement - grabbed them and put them away! The two Aracauna are ery flighty though and quite happily jump over the partition in my coop.
I almost lost a hybrid when it tried to fly over the fence of my run which is 8 foot high. I quickly ordered some pond netting and put that over the top and it works a treat  :)

I do keep trying to warn everybody that Araucanas are more closely linked to jungle fowl - hence why about 6 of mine roost in the trees along with my guinea fowl
Staffies are softer than you think.

Wow!  I didn't know chickens did this!  Cool!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!
