Had one of mine for 25 years from 3yo, she died of old age we believe. She was my reason for living for many years and I still miss her loads after five years. She was very good at producing goodies for the garden too! My ex-husbands driving pony also lived to a ripe old age, but I sold him 15 years ago. He was a good producer too. They were paid in carrots and swedes!

My girl's name was Tosca

Did your Tosca grow a super thick long coat this winter?? Mine did, he usually does a fair winter coat and copes with not being clipped, but he had to be clipped right out as he was matting up this year. Curious.............perhaps horse sense and knew the snows were coming.

LOL.. no.. he's rugged up to the nines! ::) he's a softy.. I normally clip at the end of january, but that because I'm a lazy mare.. with the winter coat coming out! and we are normally showing from April, so his coat has to be 100%.. not this year.. I couldn't ride so, I left him... but he's come through the coat loose ok... It was I who suffered! LOL... I just looked like a Yeti!

They do get hairier (if thats a word!) as they get older.  My ikle $hitland who is about 21 ish.. had a very long / thick coat this winter... and he is still wearing some of it! and I can't get the coat out.. no matter how much I brush! >:(

BTW.. love Tosca.... he's my fav colour.... I'm a sucker for greys... well dapples... then they turn  and his winter pic made me LOL.... My greys used to be the same... :D  I must dig some old pics out of them for you..

Tosca had a very thick, very soft underneath coat, but not particularly long. When she was young I used to clip her twice, in November and January. She had a good coat all her life, as well as a very thick tail and mane...a nightmare to keep under control! It was her 25% Irish draught blood I think. The rest was 50% Arab and 25% TB.
