I'm thinking of growing asparagus, but does it really need to be in a sunny spot or will i get away with a raised bed in semi shade?

Thanks

I don't know how well they produce in and out of sun as compared but couldn't you find them somewhere sunny. Will produce for decades. :)

I'll have to re-arrange the plot but I'll find somewhere.
How much room do you think I'll need for approx 10 crowns

they like a well drained open soil but well manured at the same time, in a clay soil its better to make some raised beds and import a good mix of top soil, sand and manure. Its a well to make the bed properly as it will be there for 30 years at least!!

Timely advice folks.  I have some coming from Marshall soon.  :)  2 varieties I think, must check the order.
