Grasses
« on: October 11, 2012, 09:57 »
I have just taken delivery of a selection of grasses, (jumbo plugs).
The after care leaflet does not tell you a great deal.
Can I put these straight in the raised beds I have made.??
Or do I bring them on in the greenhouse??,do I need to re pot them??
Any ideas please.

I''ve little idea but there's plenty of advice on the hinternet.... It seems that when to plant depends very much upon the variety.

Try this link for a starter RHS - Grasses and, if I were you, I'd email the supplier and ask for advice.

Best of luck.

If they are in plugs, I would suggest looking at their roots and how much they have filled their space. I would guess they would need re-potting, but in a slightly larger pot and with a low nutrient mix with grit or such, then keep them in a well-ventilated place over winter. To be sure of success, in spring if they are ok, then re-pot into a bigger one with multi-purpose soil with added grit where they can start to grow and get established in their pots before you plant outside after hardening them off.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
