Little, gimli. Although the daytime sun is still warm, as it turns colder there is more danger of frost damage at night. You should be able to pick them and ripen them on a windowsill, if this is going to be the case.

... or for a little quicker, place loosely in a paper bag with a banana skin. As the banana  dries out it gives off ethylene gas which helps to ripen the tomato.

Just threaten to turn them into green tomato chutney when you pick them green then they'll ripen before you know it!

Does the banana skin trick work on green sweet peppers?

@ shokky, I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work

They seem to ripen better on the vine. Cut the trusses of tomatoes and put them in the windowsill/in with bananas or whatever.

My tomatoes that are starting to turn red go on the windowsill, but the ones that are still bright green get thrown in a drawer and suffocated with banana fumes. Seems to work :)
