Good news on dog microchipping

I think anything at all that helps is a good thing.

Microchipping isn't infallible but in many cases would be an advantage. Bessie was chipped by her breeder but it seems that responsibility and care stopped there. The man who bought her as a pup didn't even report her missing and even though I put her description on different internet sites in an effort to find an owner, I had no enquiries at all.

Our local rescue has had many experiences of notifying an owner of the whereabouts of their missing dog, to be met with a flat refusal to collect it and to be told to 'get rid of it, I don't want it'!

I do think that the chipping will lead to more people having to take responsibilty for their animals and possibly they might be deterred from ownership if they realise they can be identified.

Certainly compulsory neutering of non breeding stock would be good and also stricter controls of puppies being bred for sale.
