« on: April 11, 2007, 22:19 »
HI, everyone its been a while since my last post but i am still as keen and have been very busy on my allotment.
i have come across my first problem.
i brought some strawberry plants from B&Q almost 1 weeks ago.  they seem to be growing and im watering them every other day but some of the leaves have started to go brown around the edges. can anyone tell me why and if there is somthing i can do to stop it.

thanks kim

Kim how are those strawberries doing?  :tongue2:

I bought some this year too and I have decided to put straw around them. :tongue2:   Several reasons really firstly to keep the fruit clean when it ripens, :D  then to help with weed control and lastly ... and I think this is what might help you to stop them damping off!

Stawbs obviously need water for the fruit but the soil may be too wet for the leaves when they touch the ground.  Obviously once they are established they will be sturdy and strong and will hold many of their leaves away from the ground ... but until then ...

Let me know how they get on

Read somewhere that we're supposed to pick all the flowers off this year, and not crop, so that the plants are stronger(er!) next season. But not sure I'm that patient! Don't forget to root the runners in small pots so that you have some nice new plants for next year.
Still glowing, still growing, still going strong!
