comfrey question
« on: October 24, 2008, 18:32 »
i planted some comfrey last may and its grown really well.i havent cut it yet as advice was to leave it for the first year.
im going to use the leaves when i plant my potatoes next spring.
question is do the leaves that are on now die off and more grow b4 march?
or do u leave these leaves on and use them when planting....if that makes sense :?

don't forget about the liquid feeds from the same plant also

Where can I get some comfrey plants from, enough to do a 15ft row? Is it OK to get them this time of year for planting out now and how many would I need?

  Robbo.

I dont grow it myself but you are best to plant out in early spring, and you need the bocking 14 variety. Its not as invasive as normal comfrey. Not sure about the spacings though

See if anyone else on your site has any - now would be a good time to split a clump.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

we have about a 1/4 acre of it but heres a tip ...if you have enough plants  and want to feed the chucks over winter put a cloche cover over some and they wil produce so long as the ice doesnt frost em off . dont let the leaves touch the plastic and nail it down well agin the wind:wink:
