new plot
« on: April 05, 2009, 14:00 »
Hi Guys

I have been offered a plot in a couples back garden as they want it used but dont have the time. I went to see it today and can start right away with it. it was once a veggie plot but has pretty much gone to grass apart from the odd raspberry cane and strawberry plant.

I have a small garden and have only grown in containers so far, so what I want to know from you knowlegable bunch is what do I want to get in first being obviously a little behind in the growing season but I would still love a good harvest.

Cheers Guys :D

If you've got Poundland or any shop like this, they'll have some cheap -- well £1 actually!

Depends on what space you have and what you like to eat. Pics are a must you know? ;)

I have a 250 square plot and it's my first year and i'm growing Onions, spuds ( earlies, seconds and mains) carrotts, parsnips, cabbage cauli, beans, peas, rhubarb, garlic. Lettuce, radish.......

If you are quick with your preparation I reckon you could still lets lots of yummy veg grown..

Oh and Tom's chillis and peppers at home in the greenhouse

Good luck

Thanks

So if I get some seeds on the go asap I should still just manage it should I ?

There is quite a resonable amount of space so lots to fill.

I got my plot at the end of July last year and we still managed to harvest some potatoes (in buckets), radish, salad, peas and some plants I bought from ebay - beetroot, spinach, cabbage, cauliflower.

You are in a much better position than we were time wise so please go for it.  You have plenty of time to get some crops in.

Think about what you want to sow and when - eg runner beans early May - and have the relevant bed/area ready for then.

You can always buy plugs later on
