Can I remove my leek netting?
« on: November 02, 2023, 14:38 »
Assuming it has not already been removed by the hurricane shrieking outside, is it safe now to remove the cover over my leeks, or will the leek moths still be lurking in the vicinity?

I removed our cover earlier this week. We have some baby leeks (overs) already uncovered and they didn't appear to be under attack. If you're not sure whether the pest is still active maybe err on the side of caution and give it another week or so.

Thanks for these pieces of advice. Is there anything to be done if I discover leek rust?

I looked at this as I have covered mine to keep Allium leaf miner off which have ruined the crop for the last two years. It seems the leaf miners are active into November, so I’ll leave mine in place for now.

Well, yes, last year I suddenly noticed the dreaded lurgy after a hot dry spell in November.
I have four rows (grown from seed) under netting and another uncovered four rows I planted. The planted ones don't have any signs of pests but once I remove the netting I hope there is no risk of any creatures lurking in the uncovered ones moving over to the previously netted ones!
