Howdy. We have a nice big sack (about 20kg) of Vales Everest potatoes that we lifted earlier this summer. Having dried them off, brushed as much soil off as possible and put them in a breathable hessian sack, some of them are now starting to sprout little white eyes.

We keep them in a cupboard in our kitchen which is opened a few times a day for a few seconds each time to access crockery. Is this enough exposure to daylight and artificial light to encourage them to sprout?

(sorry.... we are complete nooobies to this, having started earlier this year!)

Sounds like they need to be somewhere cooler - a shed, garage or outhouse etc.

Hmm. We live in Glasgow, so with winter approaching it'll soon be colder in our (second floor) apartment than outside

Living in a tenement block, we're sadly lacking any outside storage options, but in that case I won't complain so much about our eighty-year old single glazing and ineffectual central heating.
