As you might know, we adopted a cat who turned out to be blind. Amber copes so well it took us 2 days to realise something was up and the first vet we went to didn't pick it up either!
Anyway, after she started going outside she vanished and went out of range of her radio collar (which we bought when we realised she was blind)
We were frantic and really upset. Searched everywhere, did leaflets etc all to no avail. Then after 6 days she just strolled in through the cat flap, let out a big miaow and settled down by the fire.
We were overjoyed and I think she was pleased to be home too :)

Bet that was nonchalantly as if to say "I wasn't lost, just out having an adventure!"

It must be the year of the ginger cat

This is our Ginger, real name Simba.
14 months ago he appeared at my kitchen window. It took 3 months but i eventually found his owner 4 miles away.  They came to pick him up and he was so pleased to see them.  He jumped into their car without a backwards glance or thank you and was gone.  :(
Next day he was back. I phoned his mum and she came for him but he was back next day .
I have taken him home or his family came the 8mile round trip for him at least twice a week for nearly a year.
I have now agreed with his family that we will keep him with us and hes going to be chipped  to our address. Hes always been Ginger to us and will stay as that. :)
He's a lovely big boy and has settled in with us  and our other cats easily.

What a handsome fellow, Spana! :D He obviously prefers the idea of some feline company to his "real" home. ::)

The strange thing is he had 3 other cats at his very nice proper home.

I would have loved to have fitted a camera to him just to see the route he took to get here :)

Maybe there are more mice and interesting things going on at your farm though. :)

He came from a big old farmhouse in a very small hamlet of just 3 house and a couple of farm buildings surrounded by farmland, you would think a perfect home

I dont know if i have an over active imagination but i hated going down there.  I get a terrible feeling of foreboding as i drive down the lane and approach the hamlet and  the hairs on the back of my neck stand up
Talking to people locally who know more of the history around here than me, there have been suicides there and probably, a long time ago, witches drowned in the pond .
Perhaps Ginger can feel that and like me doesn't like it much.
I wouldn't live there for anything even tho its picture book country.

I think that's perfectly likely. I think I agree with you too!

At least his previous family know he's happy and being looked after. The not knowing is awful when a pet vanishes.
Our first cat, Kali, moved next door to live with their middle aged cat after we got two kittens to keep her company when her companion cat died.
As for your theory .. the rational me thinks it daft and another part of me thinks cats (and dogs) can be very psychic. :)

Lovely pets on this thread.

I'm sure animals must have very perceptive powers Spana; apparently they can sense an earthquake or tsunami and flee the scene long before it occurs. Your Ginger evidently feels something untoward about his picturesque hamlet.

A friend has a cat which was born without eyes John, and I too thought it was cruel to keep it alive. However, like your's she dashes around the house playing with the other cats and has a wonderful life.

Sadly we lost our GSD boy Eddie after just a few weeks (car accident) but we now have another 4 legged friend to join Charlie and Ollie here. Her name is Rosie and she is a Staffy/English Bull Terrier cross (not sure what her dad is but that's what her mum was) and she is 8 weeks old. Her mum was abandoned at Babbington Rescue whilst heavily pregnant  :(.

here we go - sorry it's a bit blurred but it is to show Rosie with our Ollie (Neapolitan Mastiff), both are breeds that people are scared of but as you can see they are just big teddy bears  :D
