Those of you that watched Monty on Friday will have seen a couple from Aberdeen who are growing potatoes in boxes , not wooden ones but cardboard. They used a box that was approximately 18 - 20 "  long ( may have been bigger )  and planted 6 seed spuds , is this the technique we should all be adopting ??

Personally speaking I'm not so sure.

It's a nice 'green' idea, but watering will be a problem at some stage, as the boxes will just flop open!

I saw a video of a chap who just laid some spuds on unbroken soil, and covered them with a foot of straw and left them to it!

The crop seemed pretty impressive, so maybe you're right, these dig-free methods could well work!

I also think the boxes will disintegrate once they've been watered a few times.
Cardboard left on top of soil, as a mulch,  disappears here after winter rain - so I don't fancy their chances

I must say i didn't see that part of the prog because i got so bored with the program i fell asleep we grow some potatoes in potato tubs but not sure about that method i tend to agree with Mum's reply I think i mite give that one a miss
