Interesting that you used to sing it. It's a poem by John Masefield. What tune did you sing it to?

Thanks for that John I never knew the origin or the complete poem, there was no set tune it was just a bit of doggerel sung to cheer you up when the spray was hard and cold. I just looked him up on Wiki he was quite an important poet and writer.

I have woken up to a blizzard this morning! This far south we are definitely not used to such prolonged cold weather and snow in March! It is going to be a real shock going on hol on Thur to temps of 30+  :ohmy:

Funny but I don't remember March 2006 being particularly cold, but 2006 was the last hot summer we had - it was the year before I got my first allotment, and it was all downhill after that.

My garden about 5 minutes ago (at least I think it's my garden!)

(Some Picasa users, including me are having problems importing new pictures since the latest release (....18) - as you can see it can be worked around but if you are on an older version I suggest you stick with it for the time being!)

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

I thought it was the north wind!  :lol:

Anyway, back to the snow in June of 1975 - anyone remember how the rest of the year turned out?

Yeah it snowed on my Birthday ... 1st June 75 , the rest of the year was hot , the following year 1976 was the hottest year on record , from Mid March to late September , those were the days when we had the 4 seasons  ::)

My mother always said she remembered at least 3 junes when there were heavy snow showers as she was hoeing sugar beet at the time. I believe the seasons have moved on a month because our cr@p Julian calender cant keep up, hence we get good septembers mow. I personally prefer this to the icy 50mph winds we normally get about now, also we are not tempted to sow to early and get get caught by the inevitable week of frost late april or early may.

The few sites I've looked at this morning, show no let-up in the cold until the 2nd week in April  :ohmy:
I hope they've got it wrong  ::)

No snow here just bitterly cold someone mentioned it was 20C this time last year.

I have a few things like cucumbers I wanted to germinate indoors then move to the mini greenhouse but really not sure when things are going to warm up

Ema -even if we were having warmer weather now it would still be way too early to start germinating cucumbers - better to wait until mid or late April.
