I've got a couple of dustbins full of chicken poo.  I've added layers of soil and grass but unfortunately there's quite a bit of wood shavings mixed in it.  Is there a way of making it rot down quicker with all the shavings? or something I can add :?:   Thanx

As I recall, the two main agents in breaking down wood waste are :

1. spirochetes - yes the same things that vector syphilis, Lyme's disease and more

and
2. fungi specialised for the job

Does anyone have Lawrence Hill's book where he talks about Deep Litter systems and "Hutchesons"(??) spirochete.  Or have I remembered it all wrong?

Do you think it would be okay to dig a deep trench (sorry I mean get OH to dig a deep trench ) stick the stuff in the bottom, cover it with soil and compost and then grow courgettes/squashes in?
