Having a bit of a brainwave, I thought about using garden solar lights inside a coop instead of using 12v electrics. Take some apart and a bit of rewiring, drilling and sealing later you have lighting at the flick of a switch inside the coop.

What do you think?

Why do you want lights in your coop FCG???

We let ours have a natural life, with no artificial light at all.  the only time we use a light is down the darkest end when we are cleaning out.

I use a head torch (LEDs) for dark evenings. Can switch to red if I need to check inside while they're in there. The chooks don't need any artificial lighting. When it's dark they sleep. If they want to read a book, they have to wait until morning.

I was reading how some people use artificial lighting in winter. Just a thought for those who did! Not going to bother personally. I've taken apart lots of cheap solar lights to create gizmos. Currently designing a low cost automatic pophole opener. £1 for the light (poundshop rocks) and i already have the rest of the stuff i need. Just need to get my head around it.
