Mower advice please
« on: March 02, 2021, 10:10 »
I need a new mower.

Mrs Windy will use it most. She's a game lass but small.
The area we need to mow is small but has a steep slope at one end.
We leave the grass until the bulbs have finished so it gets rough.
I like to chop fallen leaves with it in autumn, to put in the compost.
There are a few apple trees to get carefully around.

So ?? What is both light and also robust? I'm bamboozled by the choice. Help!

Flymo, if it can be electric.  Very light and good for slopes.  I've had one for 11 years now as I have a slight slope in the garden.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hadn't seen this, Coldandwindy, but there's a post nearby about a new Flymo we've just bought. ('Downsizes and disaster'). It may struggle on a very steep slope, but is so light that you can push it easily with one hand! It's not much more than an 'entry-level' machine, but does our stuff pretty well, and we're well-satisfied so far!

Check around for prices too, they vary quite a lot!

Thank you Growster that's interesting. I wonder how it would cope with rough (very rough!) grass though? We have crocuses and fritillaries on the slope & the first cut for there is usually June! Even strimmed first its far from flat!

To be honest, CandW, I don't know, as our grass was faily flat when I did the deed yesterday!

The high setting really is high at 65mm, (2.5"), and hardly tuched the surface, so I dropped it to the middle setting and got a more even result. I want to finish it all at 25mm (the lowest,1") eventually, but after time!

I should know in a week or so, but it's too early to judge your requirement!
