DIY Propagator - Crits welcome
« on: January 18, 2014, 15:48 »
Hi

I've just knocked this up in the workshop.

I'll fit a hinged insulated door to it.

It will fit 2 seed trays and has 5 x 9w LED lights fitted in the top.

Anyone with helpful criticisms or suggestions?  I'm a bit worried about ventilation...

TIA

Adri.

We WILL grow peppers in the Peak District!!!!!

Almost snap to my concotion I made a few weeks ago.. I dont know about the LED's if they give off the correct spectrum of light.

I used 2 x 30W CFL grow lamps for my lighting. Also have them adjustable so I can keep them moving up as my onions grow.

I have a small PC fan on a temp controller fitted to the bottom as well as the air holes top and bottom..

The lamps in the pics are just testing - I used these which are for growing .... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190510811883

Gavin's right in querying the LED's. If they're the normal domestic lights, the light spectrum given off will not be correct for growing. They have to be specific grow-lights.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

The LEDs should be fine.  There's a mixture of warm and cool with more of the cool for vegetative growth.

Can't wait to get it in action.

bee to fetch a seed tray and compost....I'm not going to be able to wait much longer and I know it's a mistake but some seeds are going to be sown this weekend....I should really wait at least another couple of weeks.

Think about where you're going to put the seedlings....
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
