Title: Flymo DM Rotovator Pull Cord Recoil. B+S 3HP
Post by: LILACSPLASH on September 01, 2007, 18:28
Hi, I think I've naffed my pull cord recoil,  :oops: ... I'd tried to start it and ended up with the rope in my hand. In my ultimate wisdom, or not as it's transpired, I took the case off and the tabs, took out the rope carrier, re-threaded the rope, re-coiled the spring and put back together, but it seems to need twice as much tension on the spring to make it work.
Can someone tell me how many turns is needed to make it work right and if there's an easy way I'm missing? As even when I tension it as far as I can (and it gets really fiddly then) it still is only usefull on the last quarter of the rope  :cry:

I just did a mculloch strimmer jobbie. Exploding spring steel everywhere!
Used a thick pair of gloves and went through the aching thumbs pain barrier and somehow managed to get it back in. I slid the wound spring under some flat steel and from under there into the cup thing. Didnt think it would work again, but it did!  :D

Hi Guys, I've found this
http://nevadawalrus.com/classic-recoil.html
Seems to make sence, but I think I'll go and get a new rope first. Don't want to have to do it all over again anytime soon.
To date my non-starter wreck has had new;
exhaust
drivebelt
govenor spring (took a bit of working out!)
carb to tank gasket
and secondhand carb and tank
I'm starting to think it doesn't want to go! but I have had him running albeit only for a little while until I relalized the clouds of white smoke was a petrol leak getting hot from the exhaust :shock:
I was about to see if the new gasket and a tiny amount of well placed hylamar had did the trick when the blooming rope snapped :roll:
Oh, and I've made up a stop switch and mounted it on the handle bars, a good move I think!
