electric fence for chickens and rabbits
« on: July 08, 2010, 20:25 »
we have now installed our electric fence (with huge difficulty!- the poles bend and the net sags- have ordered more poles with the hope that this will help!) we are hoping to rescue some rabbits from the RSPCA to live with our three chickens.  The RSPCA inspector has no idea if rabbits will be safe behind the electric fence (she says some rabbits are stupid and may try and chew the fence even if they get a shock) does anyone have any experience of this?
Thanks Daisy
3 dogs, 8 chickens, 4 rabbits 2 guinea pigs, 10 quail, 2 fish and a demanding daughter who has gone to uni and left me with 29 animals to care for!!=)

We have two rabbits and three chickens, we have to keep them apart as one of our  rabbits chases the chickens, not sure what she would do if she caught one but it's a very noisy distressing affair for the chook when its cornered!! These are hens that catch and eat mice and frogs and a normally dozy rabbit!! :)   Not sure about the fencing, I separate ours by putting rabbits in runs sold for puppies

You can buy electric fencing especially for rabbits - usually to keep them out. I have no expereince of rabbits but use electric fencing for other animals and would be suprised if it didn't work. I do seem to remember a thread on here that recommended NOT keeping rabbits and chooks together.

If this is the case you could reorganise your fencing and split the area into two. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
