Changes in personalities
« on: March 04, 2011, 19:44 »
Hi
Has anyone else noticed that when a hen starts to lay her whole personality can change.
One of our Welsummers came into lay for the first time a few weeks ago and from then she is more friendly and confident, she is now one of the first out when its time to free range and she now hangs around with the other laying hens. :)
Where as the two that are still to lay stay together and tend to hang back a bit.
1 Hubby, 2 children, 2 Welsummers, 1 Leghorn Banty, 1 Wyandotte Banty, 1 Barnevelder, 2 Isa Brown, 1 Rhode Island, 1 Goldline,1 Maran, 2 Mottled Leghorns, 1 Leghorn cockerel & 2 Jack Russells

Hi Pauline,I've noticed it too.It was comical to watch my silkie when she started to lay.She was eating for England and scratching and charging around the run like a hen posessed. It makes sense because she's now broody and will only eat and drink when kicked and locked out of the house. She must have been preparing herself.....a bit like me when i was preggers actually!
