i know i'm looking ahead but i would like to graft plums next year. but do you do it in spring when they come out of their dormant state (same as apple and pear)?

as your not meant to prune stoned fruit over winter do you have to keep scoins from late summer until spring. or do you just have to hope the the fresh cuts don't get infected and take the scoins when you graft?

You graft in the dormant period as you suggest. The graft wil be covered with tape or wax so spore carying water shouldn't get into the wound. The tip of the donor branches for the scion wood can be sealed with wax.

Alternatively you can T-bud in mid summer or chip bud in mid summer to mid autumn.
