Planning the Plot
« on: April 06, 2009, 00:39 »
Not sure if this is the right place for this posting but...

I found this really nifty tool for designing and planning your garden site:

http://www.growveg.com

You just put in the size of your garden space and then it draws your garden for you and you just drag and drop your veges where you want them.  You can make as many garden plans as you like. And when you do this years plan based on a previous years plan, it will tell you where not to plant your veg based on crop rotation.  It can also send you email reminders for sowing, planting and harvest.

Sorry if I sound like an infomercial! but I have had so much fun at this site planning out my new allotment.  The plans look so professional and organised.  I love how it tells me the spacing I need for the plants and which plants belong to which family.  Being new to gardening it was all a bit overwhelming.  But this tool really helped me to sort out the information.

I hope this is useful to someone... and that I'm not repeating a site that you all already know about!

I have a rather haphazard method of planning the plot... I don't :)
i.e. yesterday I went and put my onions/shallots and broad beans in and wondered where I could stick them. So just made sure I hadn't planted them in the same place as last year and picked a place and stuck them in.. I am lazy so don't plan ahead :) :) werks for me..
Saying that I already know where my spuds are going.....

Growveg is a great site, but I can only access the planning tool if I use my laptop. They have really tried hard to find out why I can't on my desktop, but with no luck. I do recommend the planning tool though.
Lynne.

So much to do, but so little time.
