deep frozen dahlias
« on: January 02, 2010, 14:47 »
When clearing behind my shed I found three large pots which contained dahlias in the summer. When they died down I put them there intending to lift them after being nipped a bit by frost. We'll they have been thoroughly frozen due to me forgetting about them.

Does any body now if they are worth trying to save.

I suspect they will have shuffled off this mortal coil.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I did the same with one of mine last year and was about to throw it out when I noticed it had lots of new fresh growth from the tuber.

That being said, it wasn't half as hard a winter as we've had over the last few weeks so I suspect my similarly neglected dahlia in the back yard will have shuffled off its own mortal coil this year.

But, if you want to leave them until next spring / summer you've lost nothing by giving them that chance
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

You very well could be lucky, cos I think it's the cold and wet that does for most things........at least in the shed they were dry.....hopefully

Expect the worse, but hope for the best Sion. My banana is looking very, very sorry for itself, but I`m hoping.
