Onion sets help
« on: February 15, 2008, 16:46 »
May be one of those dumb questions but i'll ask it anyway.

I brought some onion sets but some have started to show as it is still too cold to plant them direct i've started to pot them up into individual 3" pots.

The question is do i cover these (as in propagator) or leave them uncoverd?

If they are in a greenhouse out of the frost that should be OK ... I have done this in the past with garlic .... put them in loo rolls ... then put them out when I had time.

...and don't cover them. The cool temps will check their growth until planting out time.

Plant them in modules (seed tray size containers divided into say 40 little modules) and put them in an unheated greenhouse. Plant outside in March when its warming up a bit and by then they wil have nice root and top growth developing.

Gives them a good head start.
Are you looking for an allotment (full or to share) in South East Sheffield. PM me for details.
