Title: Second hand greenhouse - how to dismantle?
Post by: Bev on January 17, 2011, 21:37
 ???

Hi, I bought a second hand greenhouse on e-bay and am off to pick it up on saturday morning. I have heard that they can be tricky to dismantle. Any tips please?

Thank you very much,

Bev

Take photos.
Number panes & struts so you can remember which went where (along with a diagram).
Expect some bolts / nuts to shear as you dismantle.
Stack glass upright, not horizontally (I think).
Expect it to take twice as long as you think.

Try a search of this board (Design & Construction) for more tips, I'm sure this has been asked in the past.

Good luck!  :D

we did the same sort of thing with a conservatory, glass out first ( a chinagraph wax pencil - number the panes first) then number the frames at each joint - if you have space keep the sections as big as possible.
and of course photos at every stage - designate someone who cant help much as official photographer - and photograph any really complex bits before dissasembly. expect the putting up to take a lot longer than the taking down.

Awww thanks guys!

I have found another similar topic on this board. With loads of useful tips. Just one further question. Would you normally take the top glass out first working down to the bottom or vise versa?

Thanks in advance,

Bev ;)

Be carefull how you store your glass. My brother took one down for me and stored the glass in Dads garage but he stacked them straight onto the concrete floor in a pile. When I came to collect them most had broke. Good luck
