Compost Making Question
« on: April 13, 2009, 13:05 »
I have just adopted two Guinea Pigs and I understand that I can put the old bedding into the compost food.  I just wanted to know if I can also put in their old dried food too?

Well I do it seems to get chucked around everywhere so it's in everything  ::)

Spread the whole lot out over the heap rather than dumping it in a pile, if it's an open heap I'm sure the birds will be grateful for the extra food  :)

It'll all be veg based.

Unless you have vampire pigs

Probably best in a closed composter if you have one or the local mice will cotton on to it and you will end up with LOTS more pets. :D

Thank you all,

It seemed such a waste to throw it away when it could possibly go in the compost bin.

I'm going to have to grow veggies for my little pigs as well as me and my OH.  I nearly said us big pigs but not sure OH would appreciate that

We added guinea pig bedding to our compost for many years and never worried about uneaten food as the heap got pretty hot --- mice were sorted by our friendly lovable cats, who gave them to us as presents.

Shame to waste good stuff!!!
