I've spent the weekend trying to tidy up and clean.Looking at it I'm getting nowhere fast. I can't help but think I've made things difficult for myself with some stupid decisions.

Here's a quick list of things I wish I'd bought/done differently.

All in one washer /drier - utterly useless does neither job well.
Shaker style cabinet doors - grime just collects on them.
Stainless steel backsplash by the cooker / sink - never look clean regardless of what I do to them.
The gas hob - It's impossible to keep clean or even deep clean.
Under counter fridge - I can't see what's in it and stuff lurks in the back until it's green/blue and smelly.
Shower curtains. Are these supposed to be disposable ?
Cheap dark towels that shed fluff.
Shell sculpted porcelain. I knew I should have replaced it when I moved in. Impossible to clean.

Shaker style cabinet doors - been there, done that.  My kitchen cabinet doors drive me mad with the grime they collect and even more clever, I opted for a painted finish so you have to be really careful what you clean them with 

The kitchen is old and due to be replaced soon, so I care less about the cleaning aspect and just scrub them nowadays. I just wish it didn’t have to be every 5 minutes

I can't think of anything I've got that I wouldn't buy again. My kitchen is a seventies style one which is good enough for me, no electrical jobbies that I hardly ever use except for a soup maker that my OH wanted but now he's in a nursing home and I don't use it, plus a chip pan that I don't use.

The cheap foil wrapped doors aren't much better than a painted finish, you only have to look at them harshly with the jif and they start to bubble and you can forget using a brillo pad. I watched a few youtube cleaning video yesterday and seeing everyone just spray and wipe to clean their apparently dirty kitchen and bathroom makes me want to shout BS.

I think next time I'm not going to bother with wall cabinets either, just a couple of larder style ones as far away from the hob as possible, the underside of them is rank.

And so after me swearing never to have a painted finish kitchen again, I am now re-considering that stance

Only looking at flat fronted door ones though     

Are non-painted kitchens in the same price bracket as a painted one decent doors then. I am assuming hoping it is the cheapest ranges that are dodgy

Look on the bright side. At least no-one can accuse you of being inconsistent.
