Hi all as advised on this forum I chitted my sweetcorn in the airing cupboard on damp tissue paper, 23 out of 24 chitted and are now in Richies paper pots.

I know I am being impatient but how long roughly before they pop up through the compost?. Does chitting speed the whole process up?.

Chitting means the root has already started growing before they are potted up, so it makes it quicker before you see a shoot above the ground.

Give them a few days and you should see signs of green

I am doing the same.    2 days to chit in the airing cupboard. Pot up.
Then they are all through in another 5 days max on the windowsill at 20deg. Some are a bit slower than others

I am sowing half a dozen at 7 day intervals this year.  Bit of production line at the moment.

For what it's worth, I put some 'unchitted' Sweetcorn into pots on Tuesday and put them in the airing cupboard at the correct depth. Today, two days later, they're already poking through the soil. Very surprised, particularly as the french beans popped in on Tuesday are already up aswell.

Renting out my airing cupboard for £100 per week.

Good news already 8 of the 24 are up & running. Last night no show this morning 8 up .

I am about to sow my Cobra French Beans Indoors in readiness for planting out in 10 days. Can I chit these on tissue in the airing cupboard? Or is there another recommended method of getting French Beans going.?

You can but they take longer than sweetcorn does

Especially if you put them all in upside down, like I've just done!

Only 2 hours later and 2 more are now up.
These must be the Usain Bolt of Sweetcorn.
