Title: Carrots
Post by: colinc on June 27, 2011, 20:58
I am newcomer to vegtable gardening I have grown some carrots from seeds which started in pots in the green house and got planted outside in in the end of march. I have dugs some up tonight and they are a bit deformed to say the least where did I go wrong.

I think you have described where you went wrong.

Carrots and parsnips are vegetables with a decent tap root.  They often don't tolerate being sown in pots and then transplanted.  I suspect that they got a bit squashed in the pots, and would not recover their straightness thereafter.

I plant all mine direct in position.
You can get away with starting them in pots but they must be transplanted before the tap root gets to the bottom of the pot.
Try again with some early nants and transplant as soon as they are showing.
