Espallier training fruit trees (Medlar and Pear)

Can I espalier train a Medlar do you think?

I also have a conference pear that was given to me for Christmas - its in a large pot, and about 8' to 10' tall - could I espalier train that too, or is it too big? It has plenty of young branches at a low level.

Do Pears have rootstocks like Apples? If so I could try to find out what type it is (it came from a reputable nursery)

yes Pears are grown on rootstocks like apples - normally Quince A B or C. Tend to be used on standards - Quince A is most common.

I bought an end of season Conference Pear from Homebase three years ago for a fiver  with the idea of experimenting with it to make a Double-U type espalier.
It was about 5 feet tall at the time.
It's doing well in its Double-U conformation and is again 5 feet tall.
Possibly beginners luck :D
Little by little a bird makes its nest!
