salsify leaves
« on: June 10, 2010, 21:02 »
anyone know what salsify leaves look like??
I planted some for the first time earlier in the season, but have no idea what the leaves look like and have not been able to weed properly, several of the weeds have tap roots and every time i pull one, i'm thinking - is this a salsify
 :(

google was my first port of call, but the images that were legible didn't marry up with anything in the row

I'll be driving past the lotty at lunchtime, I'll stop off and take a pic (will give me an excuse for a quick potter anyway!!).

Hi,

I did go past the lotty today, unfortunately couldn't take a picture as I've just had to leave my phone in the O2 shop in town to be returned to head office.  It's been freezing all week and finally died on me. :tongue2:  I now find out it's a really unreliable model  :tongue2: :tongue2:

I'll be up there on Sunday and will take a proper camera with me...

ps I took a good look at the salsify - they now look like clumps of (oriental) grass.  When they were smaller they were brownish-green, now they are quite green.  I don't know if that helps you!

Sorry!

I always resize as I upload to photobucket, set it at 640x480 and it's automatically OK and there aren't the size issues which you can otherwise encounter.

But sleep well tonight!

Salsify, also known as Serpent Root, below ground a bit like dock, above ground, looks like clumps of flat bladed grass (nothing like dock leaves). So to answer your original question, yes, you've been pulling up Salsify   :nowink:
