Planning on growing most things this yr and just come across these Salsify (Vegetable Oyster).

Never even heard of it before. Anyone grown and eaten them ? what they like?

I might even order a pack.

Grows well in my garden. Considered by some to be a 'gourmet vegetable'. IMO parsnips are far, far nicer though and I shall not be growing them again.

They have really lovely flowers!  Personally, I think the roots are bland and slightly icky (but then I don't like shellfish), but the flowers are really tempting for a border.  Also, I think the buds are edible, but I have no idea what they taste like.

I'm not saying don't grow them, you might like them, the 'gourmet vegetable' nickname suggests that there are people out there who love them. But based on my experience you might only want to grew a very few until you decide what they're like.

On the plus side as the roots are quite long they do force you to really dig deep to get them out!

Had a day off today. Was going to finish the winter jobs in the garden. Thanks a bunch Mr Snow!
