i am clearing some plants that have been gotten at by the first bit of frost and i dug up some dahlia tubers , i would like to place them in 10 litres tub with compost for next year but whats the best way to store them in the gardenhouse for overing winter or can they just go into the tubs and left outside ?

Hi Karlooben
The best way to store dahlias is when you have cut the tops down to about 6inches take all the soil from the tubers and stand them upside down to drain any water that may be inside the stems, next wrap them in newspaper and store them in a frostproof shed untill feb.
Then in a greenhouse place them in tomato boxes and cover the tubers with moist compost, they will soon start to shoot new cuttings and when they about 4inches long just cut them of as low as you can taking a bit of the tuber with it, that way it will root much better. keep taking the cuttings until you have enough, then you can plant the tubers as well.
Hope this is of help to you
Cheers
