My dad's pear tree has some nasty spots and pimples on the leaves. It's got plenty of fruit developing but we're afraid it might just drop it all if this is a disease.
Can anyone ID it please and advise what to do.

hi , looks like leaf blister mite . you would normally pick of and burn affected leaf/fruit but as it appears to be so infected i would try and get a chemical treatment

Cheers Kev. I'll do a google and see what's needed. We bought them the tree from a reputable nursery abotu 18 months ago, so I presume it's picked it up locally.

Funnily enough my dad's pear tree is exactly the same. it is about ten years old and has always been in perfect health, so is there somehting different this year? he lives in Portsmouth

I am going to google blister mite too because I need to get to the bottom of this as he will be gutted to lose the tree as it was one of Mum's favourites.

Havign read a couple of articles, it is apparently harmless other than reducing the leaves' ability to function fully. For small infestations, you can remove and burn leaves but this seems to be near total so I'm just lookign at the link kev posted. Have to give him a ring in a bit and set him on to it

Can't see anything that would deal with blister mite yet .... any more suggestions Kev? (Maybe I'm just being dim -- point me in the right direction please if it's me not looking in the right place  )

a post on here (pear leaf blister mite) from 2007 has a few suggestions. a sulphur based spray can help. bayer make a garden organic pest control but you would need to find a supplier. also  biosept allclear rtu, biosept rose gold and growing success winter wash are said to help

If it's a post from a couple of years ago, just do make sure that any products recommended therein, are still legal to use.
