Help! My chickens aren't drinking
« on: September 07, 2008, 18:11 »
I picked up my first chickens this afternoon (sorry, no pics yet, they're a bit camera shy).  I have a Goldline(?) of about 18 weeks, and a Light Sussex and a Bluebell of about 13 weeks.  They seem happy enough eating layers pellets, and hiding at the darkest back corner of the coop, but they haven't drunk anything all afternoon.  I've got two sources of water, a plastic drinker, and a pottery bowl of water.  How long can they go, and should I leave water in the henhouse when I shut them in for the night? :? Hope someone can help.  I don't want them dying on me.

Hi eggbound

It wont do any harm to leave a drinker in over night with them :)

They'll prob have a good drink as soon as your back's turned

If your really worried dip their beaks in to one of the drinkers so they know it's there :D

Thanx for that.  As soon as your reassuring message came throught they all crept out from under the house and started drinking!  Are they telepathic? Feel better about shutting them up for the night now. :D

Glad I was of some help :D

I used the chuck telegraph to get word to them that you were worried

Have also told them that they must stand pretty for Photo's as soon as possible :D

Auntie - are you still reading Alice?

I think it rather sad that I know where the quote comes from too!
