Dandelion seeds on compost heap?

I am mowing my lawn which is covered with dandelion seed heads.  Can I put the clippings on the compost, or am I better putting them in the council green bin.  Will the majority of seeds rot or be ruined by the compost heap heat, or will I get one million new Dandelion plants to go with the 100 thousand I already have?
