One of my apple trees (type unknown) set a few blossom a couple of weeks ago too but they just dropped off. No idea what it means!

We had some similar question a few days ago, I can repeat myself, some plants do sport a second flush of unusual flowering in a particular summer. I think they shall flower next year and would not worry about it. Not much you can do at any rate.

I understand it is more common in vigorous  apple varieties and is a part of alternate year fruit bearing.

I didn't realize, it was young and hadn't flowered earlier in the year. Depending what age and size, many won't let fruit trees to bear fruit in their first couple of years.

But as you seem saying they dropped anyway, so it's fine, I think. :D
